Local SEO – The Next Frontier in Search Engine Marketing

March 25th, 2009

Recently, while doing a search for limo services in Google, I was presented with a question in the results that I had not seen before. The question was “Looking for local results for limo service?” Just below that question was a form field where I could input my zip code or the city I reside in and a search button to deliver local search results. Also there was a check box below that suggesting that Google remember this location for future searches apparently for the purpose of remembering where I am searching from to deliver local search results in the future. This confirms what I have said for over two years; local is the next trend in search engine marketing.

Here are some interesting statistics about local search.

97% of American internet users use the internet to shop.

90% of online commercial searches result in offline bricks and mortar purchases.

82% of local searchers follow up offline via an in-store visit, phone call or purchase.

80% of budgets are spent within 50 miles of the home.

66% of American use online local search, like Google local search to locate local businesses.

61% of local searches result in purchases.

54% of Americans have substituted the internet and local search for phone books.

25% of internet searches have a purely local, commercial focus.

These statistics are very important to any local business with a website being used for more than a business card on the net. Today, more than ever, local SEO offers the very best return on investment for any local business owners who need local consumers to maintain or increase their business revenue.

Any business in any community with a website that has been properly optimized will begin to see the true potential of local search in the months and years to come. A website can easily be an online sales tool providing information and revenue 24 hours a day to local businesses just like the bigger names and brands we all know of.

Unfortunately, ranking in local searches does not automatically come with having a website online. Search engine rankings come from a concentrated effort to make a website rank for popular search phrases that will bring local customers to your website, calling your business phone and coming through your business doors. To make your local business website a productive sales tool, you will need to utilize local SEO services from a reputable SEO professional. Without these experienced professionals, your website may never be seen by anyone other than the handful of people you personally send to your website.

If you are a small business needing to maximize your website’s revenue potential, small business seo is a must for jump starting a tremendous opportunity from the new trend in local search engine marketing.
