It’s Really Not Hard To Search Divorce Records

October 24th, 2009

That’s why we have so much divorce. The divorce rate in the US hovers above 3 per 1000 of total population. Most states have had them centralized since the mid 60′s. Prior to that, they were generated and maintained at the respective district offices of the county where the divorce was granted. Not surprisingly, accessing records online is the method most often chosen for record acquisition.

The state’s divorce records are kept and carefully stored by the Division of Vital Records. Searches for divorce records can be conducted by name, city, zip code, or state. Furthermore, divorce public records are also used in genealogy research, locating biological parents by adopted children and vice versa, and establishing identity and status when claiming for inheritance.

In today’s society it’s hard not to cross a middle age person that has not been divorced at least once in their lives. Private FOC resources usually have a catch and many of them just smack of virus and spyware outright. Online divorce record websites have databases with over hundreds of millions of public records stored in their directories. As with any record search service, a site that provides free records will likely return fewer details about the divorce(s) than a fee-based site.
