Is Freelance Writing Your Cup of Tea?

May 11th, 2009

My online adventure began with freelance writing. Although that was more than 3 years ago, my freelance writing gigs helped me quit my full time job and launch my Internet marketing business as well. I highly recommend everyone who can write, or want to write, to get a few writing gigs as a legitimate and sustainable way to improve your cash flow.

Although there a really good freelance writing guide available, in this article let me give you and idea of what you can do:

  1. Become a ghostwriter for other people’s books and ebooks
  2.

  3. Write articles for website / blog owners
  4.

  5. Become a regular writer for offline / online media in various topics
  6.

  7. Become a paid blogger using sponsored blogging like Review Me
  8.

  9. Become an editor / proofreader and help proof someone else’s work
  10.

  11. Become a web copywriter and charge for every web copy written
  12.

Being an editor requires more of a critical eye and amazing grasp of grammar and writing styles. This is a skill not everyone, even world-class writers, possess. Copywriting is another highly paid skill that requires creative thinking and therefore it not really in the reach of most people. If you can write a proper sentence in English, most other types of writing is good for you.

Therefore, you should focus on ghost writing, content writing and paid blogging.

Ghost writing can help you make a pretty amazing sum of money, but the flip side to this is that no one will ever know who you are or appreciate the work you’ve done. In the Internet marketing world, lot of information marketers are constantly looking for someone who can help them write ebooks, instruction manuals and other types of documentation.

Getting credited (and perhaps a link back to your site) is a great reason to be writing for blogs and other similar online media. If you’re writing for blogs, you have your author credits on each blog post. This helps other people know who you are, and get addicted to your style of writing, ideas, and personality. Writing on blogs or other places where you get credited for your writing is much better in terms of building a long-term career.

The final type of freelance writing you can do is paid to blog. The basic idea is that you have your own blog, and look for pportunities in paid blogging networks. Your job is to write about the advertisers products and create some sort of buzz for them. The popularity of your blog determines how much you earn per post.

The plus side to this is that technically you own the content you have written, which means you can always make money using your growing blog with Google Adsense or even affiliate offers.
